Note from the President – December 2024
|Happy December!
As we near the end of the first semester, I wanted to take a moment to connect with you personally and share some exciting updates and reflections.
We have so much to look forward to in the coming months! Young Peoples Art Exhibition Due by January 18th at Prairie Art Center. The Celebration of Youth Arts Month (YAM) is just around the corner in March, and it’s a time to truly celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of our students. Additionally, Young Talent in Oklahoma (YTIO) is another opportunity to showcase the brilliance of our young artists will be starting up soon. Be sure to check the OAEA website and follow us on social media for updates on important deadlines and events—you won’t want to miss out!
As we wind down the semester, it’s a perfect time to reflect on what is truly important to us. Amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I encourage you to focus on the things that bring value to your life. Whether it’s creating personal art, spending quality time with loved ones, or simply taking a moment to breathe, remember to prioritize yourself. Your students love you and look forward to your class every day. To give them your best, you must take care of yourself first.
A good friend recently reminded me that it’s okay to not do it all. If you attended the Department of Education Summer Art Session, you might have met Suzanne Dailey and received her book, Teach Happier this School Year. In it, she quotes Martha Beck: “Having fun is not a diversion from a successful life, it is the pathway to it.” If you haven’t had a chance to dive into her book yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a wonderful tool for reflection and inspiration as we navigate our roles as educators and creatives.
As I close, let me remind you of this: You are amazing and loved. You hold one of the most powerful jobs in the world—empowering the minds of the next generation. Your dedication and passion make a difference every single day.
Take care of yourself this holiday season, and remember that your work matters. Together, we’ll continue to inspire, uplift, and create.
Warmly,
Avery Chambers
