OAEA Conference

As we gear up for this year’s 2011 fall conference you’ll be able to look here to get the latest information on workshops, lodging reservations, maps and other information. The OAEA 2011 Fall Conference will be held at OU in Norman, Oklahoma.

Ann Tomlins is the Fine Arts Coordinator for Tulsa Public Schools and veteran of classrooms in New Jersey and Oklahoma. These classrooms sometimes came equipped with only a bucket for wa- ter or sometimes with cutting edge technology. She has worked in suburbia and in the inner city. She has helped put winter boots on for Kindergarteners and taken High School AP stu- dents to the Dallas Museum of Art. She believes that she has enjoyed great life experiences that she needs to account for!

Ann has fine arts degrees from the State University of New Jersey and the University of Tulsa. She has certificates in Asian Studies from the East West Center at the Univer- sity of Hawaii and Yale University. She is the recipient for the Elgin Hines Award for Excellence in Asian Studies.

Ann has written a book entitled the “Creative Companion: A Guide for Teaching Creativity in the Classroom”. She is a three time Fulbright recipient. Her doctorate won the Nation- al Education Research Association Distinguished Paper Award.
Ann continues to work in sculpture and photography. Her recent photo essay, “On the Edge” is a allegory for urban stress and re- viving the creative core. She believes that all students start out as artists and arts teachers are called to keep that creative spark alive.
