OAEA Conference

OAEA 2010 Fall Conference will be held at OU in Norman, Oklahoma.
Dates are Sept. 24-25, 2010.

Guest Speaker, Ted Orland

TED ORLAND lives in Santa Cruz, California, where he pursues parallel careers in teaching, writing & photography. He began his professional career working as a young graphic artist for designer Charles Eames, and in the 1970’s became Assistant to photographer Ansel Adams and printer of Adams’ Yosemite Special Edition Prints. Ted taught traditional photography at Adams’ Annual Yosemite Workshop for fifteen years, and currently teaches digital imaging at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz CA, as well as offering Master Class workshops nationally. In earlier times Ted also taught full-time at Stanford University and at the University of Oregon.

Ted is co-author (with David Bayles) of the classic artist’s survival guide, Art & Fear, and is author of its companion volume, The View From The Studio Door. Ted also wrote Man & Yosemite, a history of nineteenth century Yosemite as revealed in photographs of the period, and is currently preparing an enlarged and updated version of that book. And on a much lighter note, he created the underground classic Photographic Truths poster. (Ted is also founder and owner of the Image Continuum Press, which published all of these works.)

Ted’s personal photography honors the West Coast tradition of fine craftsmanship and printmaking while engaging a wide range of contemporary subject matter. His photographs are widely exhibited, and appear in major museum collections nationally, including those at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Amon Carter Museum in Dallas TX and the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, Japan. A large selection of Ted’s earlier photographic art appears in his monograph Scenes of Wonder & Curiosity, while examples of his newest work appear in Michelle Bates’ anthology, Plastic Cameras: Toying With Reality. Ted’s artwork is represented by The Ansel Adams Gallery.
