“How to Judge Art”-Victor Youritzin, (OU)

Analyzing numerous famous paintings, Professor Victor Youritzin will discuss what constitutes ‘real’ art.  He has delivered this lecture at grade schools, universities, the Pentagon, as well as on national and international television.

“Preparing Students for Graphic Design Fields”-E. Anderson/K. Hayes-Thumann, (OU)

This session will introduce what students need to know to enter graphic design fields.  What is graphic design?  Discussion will focus on the importance of drawing, idea & concept development, & critical analysis.

Intro. to Video Editing”, Samantha Dillehay (OU)

This session will demonstrate intro level editing techniques using Final Cut Pro Software.

Look at a variety of ways of setting up/organizing curriculum so you can stay on track, present it to parents and WOW your administrator.

“Picasso Reliefs w/ Glaze Combos”-AMACO/brent

We will create Picasso faces with textured slabs of clay.  We will explore the possibilities of decoration with layered glazes and underglazes creating unique effects.

“Primitive Digital Photography”-Todd Stewart (OU)

Participants will use pinhole cameras and flatbed scanners in this low-tech approach to making digital images.

“Make & Take Batik”-Lynette Hill

Want something different? Need a captivating project? Participants will receive materials and instructions creating and completing a crayon batik. Easy and accessible materials that students and teachers love.

“Monotype Mania”-Marwin Begaye (OU)

All Levels-Hands-On Activity; 15 participants **$30. Material Fee

**Material requests:  Varied brushes, mark making materials, decorative papers, printing and tracing paper, ball point pens, sharpies, manila folders (stencils), brayers, tape, and portfolio to take work home.

Ink will be slung, stress relieved, and good old fashion fun will be had while you learn basic and advanced techniques of water-base and oil-base Monotype printing.

“Fun & Whimsical Clay and Underglaze Figures”-AMACO/brent

You will create your own fun and whimsical figure.  We will explore the many helpful techniques used to create these figures using clay and underglazes.

“Pastel Painting”

Create three pastel paintings and learn some new methods in this hands-on workshop! Materials provided!

“Experimental Cyanotype” -Jann Jeffrey & Logan Walters

All Levels-Hands-On Activity/ Demo. Presentation; 20 participants **$3. Material Fee

A diverse way of using this photographic solution to create Prussian blue designs. Participants are urged to bring a number of small objects in order to create their design using the sun rays.  Take home project!

Share how to participate in the USSEA/INSEA Art Exchange.  Teachers can submit work for our on-line gallery, or may choose partners for a national or international art card exchange.  Re-imaging our futures will be presented!

“What’s New in AP Studio Art”-Trish Winnard/Que Calhoun

Participants will see new scoring rubric, digital submission with extensive Q & A.

“Clay Projects for the Classrooms” House of Clay”-Judith Wagenseller

Projects can be adapted for various age levels.

“Weaving In Your Hands”-Bobby Anderson (OU)

Middle/Secondary Level-Hands-On Activity; 15 participants **$5.00 Material Fee

Weave little bags using simple materials.  Bags are suitable for your cell phone, sunglasses, or Ipod.  Participants will be able to take bags with them after the session.

This session will give information about the process of National Board Certification for Art teachers and discuss related issues concerning funding, scholarships and re-certification.

“The 2009-10 AP Studio Reading”-Jane Harlow

Information will be shared about the 2009-10 AP Reading: The Process, The Changes, Digital Submission and Concerns.  Q & A will follow.

“Teaching Figure Drawing to Kinder’s-5th”-Cindy Erickson

Elementary, Hands-On Activity; 25 participants

A seasoned teacher will present 6 lesson plans to teach elementary students to do figure drawing appropriate to each developmental age.

Learn to use digital images & video clips to create digital stories for art.  Examples made in imovie (MAC) will be shown with suggestions for PC users.  Online examples will be given.

“An Analytical Eye: Learning to See Compositional Structures”-Edna McMillan

Middle/Secondary-Lecture/Audience Participation

Fifteen compositional structures will be presented through historic and contemporary paintings.  Participants will see organizational clues which can be applied to observed or envisioned subjects.

Participants should bring laptop and web cam or other attached camera to create a short movie during the workshop with free trial software.

“Organic Sculptures-Frances Williams

All Levels-Hands-On Activity/Demo.

**Need to bring panty or knee-high nylon hose & hair dryer, if possible.

Create a free form sculptural piece that challenges one to see the sculpture as a balanced & unified work.  This lesson has individual and group project possibilities.

SATURDAY-4:15-6:15 (2 HOUR)

“Bronze Plaque Casting”-Jonathan Hils (OU)

FJC Room 109

All Levels-Hands-On Activity; 12 participants **$25. Material Fee

Carve & cast a bronze relief plaque using a sand mold technique.  Participants will be able to take their castings with them after the session.

“The Art of Journaling”-Donna Merkt-Mabee-Gerrer Museum

Explore the value of journaling and it’s many applications.  Learn to create several types of journals and techniques to make them unique works of art.
